CNC Turning Services

APY CNC manufactures custom CNC turned parts from your drawings — including shafts, pins, bushings and other rotationally symmetric components. Turning is selected according to the part geometry and agreed specifications.

CNC Turning Overview

CNC turning (lathe machining) rotates the workpiece against a stationary cutting tool to produce cylindrical, conical and rotationally symmetric features. It is efficient for parts where the primary shape is defined by diameter and length, such as shafts, pins, bushings and sleeves.

Turning is well suited to axis-symmetric parts because the rotating stock produces round features naturally. Where a part also needs off-axis holes, flats or milled features, turning may be combined with milling in a single process plan. Diameters, lengths and tolerances are defined per the drawing and confirmed with the factory.

Our turning strength is Swiss-type (sliding headstock) machining: 47 Star & Tsugami Swiss-type lathes produce small, slender and threaded parts — such as charging gun pins, terminals and bone screw type components — with high-volume consistency. Turn-mill compound machines handle parts that need milled features in the same setup.

Compatible Materials

Material selection matched to your design, mechanical requirements and application.

Grade examples do not imply all grades are stocked. Actual material availability and machining scope are confirmed per project.

Diameters and Lengths

The achievable diameter and length ranges are configured by the factory and depend on the actual lathe configuration, including bar capacity and chuck size. We do not publish fixed numbers; instead, the working range is confirmed per project.

For quotation, please provide diameters and lengths per your drawing or specification. Our engineering review confirms whether the part fits within the available turning envelope and process plan.

If your part is long, small-diameter or requires a Swiss-type setup, share the drawing early so we can confirm the appropriate machine and feasibility.

Tolerances

Achievable turning tolerances are evaluated per project and depend on the part's diameter, length, material, feature geometry and inspection requirements. Tighter tolerances on critical diameters may require additional setups and measurement.

For quotation, please specify tolerances per your drawing. Our engineering review confirms which features can be held to the requested tolerance on the available equipment, and we will flag any feature that needs discussion.

Quality Inspection

Inspection activities planned around your critical diameters and requirements.

  • Incoming Material Verification — material identification and incoming checks as applicable.
  • In-Process Inspection — checking critical diameters and lengths during production when required.
  • Final Inspection — dimensional and visual checks against agreed specifications.
  • Inspection Documentation — reports may be provided when agreed for the project.
